All set for mid-table obscurity?

THE FUTURE’S BLEAK looks ahead to the weekend’s game against the Swans.

It’s 9th v 10th at the weekend, a ding-dong mid-table battle if ever there was one. Mid-table obscurity would be a season we’d all take, as is finishing the best of the newbies.

That may not be enough for all but it would all but mean we’re staying up. Not if we win obviously, if we finish above Coo-Pee-Arr and them Welsh. There are enough rubbish teams in this league for at least one of us to finish above of…I’m looking at you Wigan and Blackburn.

For this very reason I’m looking forward to the vist of Swansea as much as I am nervous. Yes, yes I know it’s only October. I know we’ve a game or two to go until the end of the season. But going into a game with the nagging feeling that we should probably win this game flies in the face of my innate pessimism. Naturally, this all makes me a little uneasy.

I know that losing would mean we still have time to make up the difference. But still.

The game after the Swansea game puts things into perspective a tad, Liverpool away. A resurgent Liverpool team, and Suarez especially, could be put our newly stabilised back four to the test. But, one game at a time and all that.

Talking of defence, I’m all for keeping Martin at centre-back. He’s looked big and steady since he was required to step in, then again when De Laet has his brain engaged he’s arguably our best defender. When it’s not, it could be time for Ruddy to make it 2 in 2 against Swansea.

No doubt we’re due another 12-yard test.
