Patrick Bamford has been given the green light to join Norwich City on loan for the rest of the season, reports the Daily Star this morning.

The Star quote the Mail as the source for their story, although as I’m eating my breakfast with ten minutes before I have to go to work, that report is being a little elusive.

The Star say that Guss Hiddink is happy to allow the loan deal as he has Alexandre Pato about to sign for the blues.

Pato is costing a lot of money and is far from proven after his form effectively fell off the cliff, prompting a move back to Brazil in his early 20’s. He will effectively block the path to the first team for players like Bamford, so Patrick is better off moving on. It’s an unpleasant situation for youngsters in Bamford’s position but a reality of being at a club like Chelsea.

If this turns out to be true, I won’t be disappointed, I’d prefer a permanent deal but he was a real asset to Middlesbrough last year and he has a lot of promise. That promise will only be realised by such a move as this (reported) one.
