Various media reports are suggesting that Norwich City have accepted a bid of £1.8m from Middlesborough for Luciano Becchio. The ex-Leeds striker only joined the Canaries on deadline in January of this year but has found first team chances hard to come by making only a handful of appearances.

Fans have been critical of the handling of Becchio, wanting to see the Argentinian get an extended run in the team and allowed to prove his worth.

At 29, he still represents someone in their prime. He scored 75 times for Leeds in 190 appearances, a ratio of a goal every 2.5 games. Which is in stark contrast to our new loan-signing, 32 year old Johan Elmander who managed just one goal every five games for Bolton Wanderers.

Ultimately though, Becchio would not have been happy to act as cover for Wolfswinkel and Hooper, something Elmander will have to accept.

If Becchio does leave we can guarantee that Norwich will meet Middlesborough in a cup competition later this year and that he’ll score the winner. We might just have to eat humble pie and accept we made a mistake in letting him go.
