Ben Gibson Signs For Norwich City

|

Norwich City have announced the signing of Ben Gibson from Burnley.

The Friday night announcement has probably ended the incomings in this transfer window and in my opinion Gibson is the final piece of the puzzle as well as being a very welcome addition.

Initially, the signing will be a season-long loan but that will become permanent if the Canaries gain promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2020/21 season.

The 27-year-old joined Burnley from his boyhood club, Middlesbrough in 2018 but made only six appearances for the Clarets. He suffered injury and then had a rumoured fall-out with Burnley boss, Sean Dyche before training with Middlesbrough from January 2020.

Before making the move to Burnley, while ‘Boro were in the Premier League in 2016/17, Gibson was called up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate in March 2017 for a World Cup qualifier, although he didn’t get to play.

Ben is an experienced player at this level and he is basically a statement of intent to all the other promotion hopefuls in the Championship. He will hopefully give a much needed defensive boost to our back four that has looked slightly (to say the least) dodgy for the last couple of seasons.

Happy days!
