Lambert is linked with a swoop for two of relegated Portsmouth’s players…

It’s been reported today that we are interested in signing Portsmouth’s central defensive duo Joel Ward and Jason Pearce.

Ward, who is 22, came up through the ranks at Portsmouth and offers versatility as he can also play at right back and in midfield. He was linked with a £1.5m move to Ipswich in January, but rejected the move.

Jason Pearce is 24 and a centre back who also has come through the ranks at the club. He left to play for Bournemouth between 2007 and 2011, before returning to his first club. He was also linked with Ipswich in the January transfer window.

Both players would add depth to the squad relatively cheaply as Lambert plots early for next season.

  • Not interested in either. Despite a points deduction they’d still have been low down the league so don’t think they’d be good enough.

  • Agree I’m surprised to see us linked with them but have no doubt the club will have scouted them extensively.

  • Ward will probably make it in the Premier League, but Pearce was playing League 1 football a few months ago, so I cannot see him doing that well amongst the big fish.

  • Dont know a thing about them.
However, who would have believed AW would have looked so.comfortable up front?
And less we forget …… Our entire squad was playing league one two years ago!!!
