Depending on who you believe in the media, the mad scramble for James Maddison’s signature could be nearing its end.
According to the EDP, Leicester City are pushing to complete a £20m+ deal for the jewel in the Canary crown. The Foxes are on the verge of losing their own prized asset, Riyad Mahrez in a £60m move to Manchester City, a deal that almost happened in January.
Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish has also been mentioned in the media as a potential replacement for Mahrez and with Villa staring down the barrel of financial fair play, that could also happen.
Meanwhile, probably while Michael Bailey was typing up that rumour, Sky Sports were reporting that Everton are also in the hunt for Maddison, reported here by the Liverpool Echo.
Marco Silva, the former Hull and Watford boss was unveiled on Thursday as the new Everton boss and he is supposedly an admirer of James Maddison – aren’t we all, Marco.
This is a story that looks set to run and run, especially if a transfer is not completed quickly. I would imagine that City would need to sell Madders to plug some of that parachute payment sized hole they have and to help with squad rebuilding.
Sad to say, because I’d love to keep him, but it’s probably better to get that all done as early as possible, assuming it’s happening of course.
