Crucial Norwich Defender Will Miss All Of Pre-Season

|

Crucial central defender and Captain for much of last season, Christoph Zimmermann will miss 4-6 weeks, including all of pre-season with a knee problem, Norwich City have announced.

I read on social media last week that Zimmermann was seen wearing a knee brace but kind of hoped it wasn’t true – looks like it was.

City have announced that Christoph sustained a medial meniscus tear in his left knee during the summer and had an operation in London last week. He is now back at Colney working on his rehabilitation.

Having only announced yesterday that Zimbo has signed a new four year deal with the club, it is a big blow for a player that was such a big influence on the team last season.

This is going to mean that Christoph will miss all of pre-season and only return to fitness around the time that City play Newcastle or Chelsea at home. While Daniel Farke will naturally want his defensive rock back as quickly as possible, I suspect that he may not actually be available as a starting option until late August/early September, which is about the time there is usually a first international break of the season.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery, big man.
