THE FUTURE’S BLEAK looks at inflated transfer prices, Anthony Pilkington and a lack of new defenders arriving but says we’re fine. For now.

Player valuations have been the talk of the town lately, especially Peterborough`s.

After Barry Fry talked CMS out of an ironically-more-money-for-them deal in March, they`ve now said Our Cody is over-valued. Never mind the fact that most sides outside of the Championship have sniffed around the guy, £500,000 would still be a snip.

Leeds have been in on the act as we`ve seen, what with their £8million for Snodgrass a month or so ago. A month later, the most in-form Scot this side of the border goes for a reported £1million more.

You have to admire them for wanting to hang on to their players so feverishly.

And we seem to have now paid £2million or so for Anthony Pilkington. Not a bad word has been said about him from Huddersfield fans and media types alike.

Which is nice. Especially when you look at the reactions of other players we pick up.

Maybe they`re bitter, maybe they`re on to something, we`ll soon find out. But it`s coming together nonetheless, despite what some may have you believe.

The lack of defenders through the doors of Colney has sent many a-fan spiralling into despair. Not that we`ve let any go the other way through the revolving doors. I`d like to see a defender join but if we don`t (which is unlikely) we could be worse off.

And it`s only the beginning of July, if it was mid-August I`d be sitting a little less easily. But for now?

We`re fine.
