When I first heard about Huddersfield`s accepted bid for Alex Pritchard on Wednesday lunchtime, I was also told that the player himself wanted to go and in his pre-match presser today, Daniel Farke confirmed that, as reported by the Huddersfield Examiner
I`m disappointing to lose a key player but it was his wish to move,” Farke said.
“Alex made it clear he wanted to make this move and it`s up to me to find a solution.
“He appreciated being at Norwich but, at his age, he saw his chance to play in the Premier League.
“Alex is a good lad and a good character. It`s sad when players like that leave but that`s football – we have to move on.”
There`s been plenty of venting and anger being directed by Norwich fans on social media at Stuart Webber but to my mind, that`s nonsense.
If a player hears of interest in him, which he would through his agent, and then says he wants to leave, there is no point in trying to keep him and make him stay – it just delays the inevitable and might even cause a bigger problem if he refused to play etc.
Norwich need a certain amount of money for him and will presumably have got that. Pritchard wanted out and would have no loyalty to Norwich at all.
How much of his fee goes to team rebuilding will be the big question, not why didn`t we keep a player who didn`t want to play for Norwich City anymore.
