The Canaries’ preseason tour of Holland ended in a heap last night with a second defeat since the summer, and Jimmy Smith carried off after suffering a nasty injury.

New signing David ‘Dave the Striker’ Strihavka gave Norwich the lead after only eight minutes with his first City goal, after good work from Jamie Cureton and Luke Chadwick as Norwich started in bright and breezy fashion.

But as the game wore on, Zwolle came back into the match and duly equalised just before half time.

The Dutch side’s winner then came midway through the second half. The 20-yard screamer was the second time City debutant Matty Gilks was beaten on the night, despite being rarely troubled.

But the main blow to the evening’s work was the injury sustained to Jimmy Smith’s calf after a bad challenge.

He was carried off and disappeared down the tunnel on crutches, before reappearing after the game with his leg heavily strapped.

Chris Brown and Jason Shackell failed to make an appearance last night due to injury, and with Darren Huckerby and Julien Brellier also sidelined, Peter Grant will not want to see a return of the injury problems which blighted last season.

City will return home from Holland to play two home preseason friendlies, against West Ham and Vitesse Arnhem, which will run the clock down to August 11 at Preston.
