Glenn Roeder last night confirmed that David Bell missed the Charlton game with an ankle injury.

Bell’s absence from the squad for yesterday’s FA Cup Third Round tie, coupled with Coventry’s Elliot Ward not being in the Sky Blues squad had the conspiracy theorists wondering if the former Luton man’s future lay elsewhere.

‘David’s picked up a bit of an injury, and hopefully it’s just a small injury to his ankle,’ Roeder told – not making it clear if he had the ‘scan to prove it’, however.

‘I wasn’t going to play him today anyway – I’ve thought in the last couple of games he’s looked a little bit tired but that’s to be expected because he had no pre-season. Players who don’t have a pre-season always start to look a little bit tired around this time of year and he’ll come again.

‘The strength is coming back in his legs and he’ll look the player he looked like when he first came into the side.’
