Glenn Middleton has joined Glasgow Rangers Norwich City have announced

The 18 year old Scottish winger leaves on a free but with an “additional sell-on clause related to his future development.”

He is of course, well known to Rangers boss Graham Murty, who coached Middleton when he was in charge of the City U18s before making the switch to Ibrox.

I have to say that I`m a bit disappointed by this news, as I`ve followed Glenn since he burst onto the scene as a 15 year old, playing for the U18s. He is a dynamic, goal scoring winger and he looks to have a big future. It seems though that this was player driven, as Academy Manager Steve Weaver, explains: ‘Glenn expressed a desire to play first team football.

‘This hasn’t been easy for us to sort as there is strong competition in his position within the first team. Now, this opportunity has come up for him to go to Rangers.

‘He`s a Scottish lad and it`s a great chance for him to go home and play some first team football. It`s in his best interests to go and play up there.

‘We’d like to thank Glenn for his service to Norwich City and wish him the best for the future.’

The bottom line here is that you cannot guarantee first team football to anyone and with Josh Murphy, Onel Hernandez and Marley Watkins ahead of him at Norwich, he wasn`t going to get the chance he so clearly craved.

You can`t knock the club for that and in fact, it`s decent of them to have the player`s best interests at heart.

Good luck Glenn.
