Grant Hanley will have a medical at Norwich today ahead of a proposed transfer from Newcastle.

This is the entry from yesterday at 17.19 on the Sky Transfer Centre

‘Sky sources understand that Newcastle defender Grant Hanley will leave the Scotland camp tonight to travel to Norwich for a medical.

The Scotland team fly to Lithuania on Thursday morning ahead of their vital World Cup qualifier on Friday night which is live on Sky. ‘

The news of a move for Hanley first broke yesterday and it seems to be gathering pace quite quickly, which is a good thing as its transfer deadline day on Thursday.

No details on a fee at all yet and I’m guessing the lad will have to take quite a pay cut but having said that, his lack of game time in the last year won’t have raised his price.

There’s been a bit of moaning already from some fans on social media about signing Hanley but he did alright for Blackburn and he’s young(ish) at 25. He can also head the ball and is strong, something we’ve struggled with of late.

  • I said in a previous post that I’m less worried about technical skill and I much more interested in someone who can be physical and hopefully be prepared to kick some strikers into the air a bit. Hope he can do that, we need it in our team. OTBC

  • Agree with that, Paul. Hanley (if memory serves) is a physical player with no nonsense approach to defending. Surely that’s what we need? I’m not sure how match fit he is as he’s hardly played for Newcastle. Might take a few games to get up to speed but he’ll probably play for Scotland in the next week or so…
