Hearts “Working Hard” On Deal For Norwich’s Naismith

|

Hearts are working hard to agree on a deal with Norwich City to take Steven Naismith to Tynecastle, report the Edinburgh Evening News.

I’m cautiously optimistic upon hearing this because Naismith is probably the highest earner at the club and with a year left on that megabucks contract, moving him on has to be a priority this summer.

I doubt any Norwich fan was more excited by the transfer of Naismith from Everton, at the time, than me. He had a proven Premier League track record and had a storming debut for the Canaries against Liverpool, scoring a goal and winning a penalty in the 4-5 defeat to the Reds.

Since then though, Naismith has failed to make much of an impact, even in the Championship last season. He moved on loan to Hearts last January and made 16 appearances and scored four goals.

Hearts manager, Craig Levein said “I’ve been in contact with Norwich and Steven’s agent. They need to sort out their situation before we can do anything so, again, it’s a case of wait and see.”

It seems that the player doesn’t have a future at Norwich, so extricating himself from his Norwich contract seems the way forward.

From my best estimates, I reckon Naismith is on around £40-50k per week, which is a millstone around the club’s neck. If we can move Naismith on then only Jarvis will remain of the club’s really big earners from the Premier League seasons.
