Ipswich v Norwich – The Stats

Ipswich Town and Norwich City played out a 1-1 draw with neither side really deserving anything more. If I’m honest and take off my yellow and green tinted spectacles, I think we can see exactly why both sides have started the season as they have.

Not exactly thrilling, was it?

The first half was a non-event with neither side managing a shot on target, although Jon Walters did hit a post, albeit that I’m sure Tim Krul had it covered.

The best that Norwich managed was a low shot from Teemu Pukki that was narrowly wide of Dean Gerken’s right hand post. The first half went on for ages with six minutes of stoppage time signalled, although we played more, due to a nasty looking injury to Cole Skuse, who had to be removed from the field by stretcher and on the back of a buggy.

The second half saw Ipswich start the better and Gwion Edwards got a fortunate deflection off Ben Godfrey, on at HT for the injured Timm Klose, to wrong foot Krul and open the scoring on 57 minutes.

City responded well though and managed to force a series of corners and opportunities as the game opened up. Eventually, Moritz Leitner scored his first goal for the club with a sweetly struck left footed shot from the edge of the area on 71 minutes, which he very much enjoyed.

1-1 was how it stayed with Ipswich moving off the bottom of the table to 23rd, while the point lifted Norwich to up to 17th. Not exactly a thriller but Norwich have now gone nine and a half years undefeated in East Anglian derbies.
