Newcastle United have opened talks with Norwich over the transfer of Jacob Murphy according to the Daily Mail

Speculation has been growing over the last few days after a reported bid of around £8m was rejected by City last week.

The Mail suggest that the player has expressed a willingness to hear what Newcastle are offering but that the two clubs have markedly different valuations of the England U21 winger.

I`m fairly relaxed about this, really. I think that £8m is bordering on derisory for Jacob, who has bags of potential and as I`ve written before, when you consider that Nathan Redmond was the same age (22) and with only one year left on his contract when he moved to Southampton for £11m, Jacob must be worth more than that in this market.

Yes, Redmond had two years in the Premier League under his belt but with four years left on his Norwich deal, Jacob is a valuable asset for the club.

With a twin brother in the City ranks of very similar ability, it could be that a £12m+ deal might be worth entertaining as it would allow the club to reinforce very nicely for the upcoming, very important Championship season.

I know he`s “one of our own” and all that but he will be ambitious to play at the highest level and he could, god forbid, suffer a career ending injury in his next game. Football is a short career and players need to maximise their earnings and make the most of opportunities that come along. I`d rather he stayed and we don`t even know for sure if he wants to leave but don`t get too emotional about it. For fans that`s exactly what it is, for players it`s a job.

10 Replies to “Is Jacob Murphy Interested In Newcastle Move?”

  • Claim made by a rival team journalist and I’ll take it with a pinch of salt. With the future looking bright, Jacob would be silly to consider forcing a move to Newcastle, given the demographics and with due respect to Newcastle, a Northeast club which always fails to realise the team full potential. Offer Jacob the option for improved terms if Norwich is promoted and get our own youth player to stay. Btw if he does go, clearly for Norwich’s record transfer fee.

  • He will be rich enough even if staying here
Greed is an ugly trait and most footballers are greedy.

  • He is a Newcastle fan by all accounts and SKY seem to be saying that he is forcing the move – He seems a nice kid and I can’t see him being a big baby and not turning up to training etc if we don’t accept, but could this unsettle his brother at all?

I think the club should stick to their guard and wait for an offer of around £16 million, but I don’t think we will see Jacob as a Norwich player for long.

  • £ 16 million as he is far from a complete player and not premier league standard yet.

  • We’ve got to stick to our guns at 15/16 mill but I bet we don’t
IF Newcastle meet the asking price then sell and utililise Jacobs talents

  • Is he actually even the better of two twins? I feel Josh has improved on a continuous upward curve, while Jacob has been more fits and starts. I certainly don’t see him as a regular premiership starter at this time. If he moves I could see him out on loan before Xmas. And Newcastle? They are likely to struggle as most promoted teams now seem to do. Hardly a big step up is it?

  • I always thought it was Josh who was the better of the twins, but Jacob looked better last season, but to be fair he got more game time.
