Is Lambert planning for life after the Prem?

THE FUTURE’S BLEAK thinks Paul Lambert’s summer signings so far point to more than short-term planning by the City boss.

Speaking with fans of other clubs about our signings this season has backed up my belief that we’re not necessarily planning for the Premier League.

It’s easy and lazy to say we’re merely planning for ‘the future’ (of course the future is being planned, what else could you plan for?), but I do believe Lambert is putting together a team that will have the best chance to bounce back, should we finish in the bottom three.

The signings, as people have had no end of angst with, are all very good Championship players.

Premier League experience is at a premium. These players could well cut it in the Prem, and we all know Lambert is the one to shape them, but if they don’t we’ll have a team bonded and talented beyond many of those in the Championship.

And with us signing most of the best Championship players there won’t be many left to trouble us. Other than that pesky Snodgrass who just doesn’t seem to within our reach.

But the line between the Prem and Championship is getting ever-cloudier; the bottom of the Premier League is as good, if not slightly less than the top of the Championship. But it’s getting it right that season, things going your way, favorable injuries and so much more.

We would all take becoming another Baggies. And now they’re bored of it, someone needs to take their place.
