Jacob Murphy is the subject of renewed transfer speculation via The Mirror

The Mirror are suggesting that Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez wants to sign the 22 year old Norwich wiinger, who impressed while on international duty with the England U21 squad at the Euros.

A fee of only £8m is being reported as the ‘asking price’ which is frankly laughable.

Having just signed a new deal that has 4 years left on it, Jacob is not going to be sold for anything less than silly money and it would certainly take more than the £16m that the Magpies paid for Michael Owen in 2005 – still their record signing.

Several of you may have just read that and scoffed, thinking he’s not worth that but it’s all relative. He’s only 22, quick, skilful and he scores goals. He’s an U21 international and crucially, he’s English and under a long contract at Norwich.

Nathan Redmond was the same age as Jacob when he was sold for £11m last summer, the difference being he only had 12 months left on his Carrow Road deal.

That’s why I think Jacob is worth a lot more than £8m.

He is a very valuable asset and will, like the rest of the squad, not leave on the cheap.

  • If there is any truth in this, club need to come out and say minimum
£ 20 million and that s it over with.

  • 8.5 million is a joke and if the club sell for that then they are an fing joke. I’m sure they said 12 million is the starting point? Long contract and player seems happy so no reason to sell.
