Key Defenders Still Missing As Norwich Sweep Aside Lincoln

|

Norwich comfortably swept aside Lincoln City 1-3 in the Canaries’ second pre-season friendly of the summer.

While the manner of the victory will have pleased Daniel Farke, albeit against League Two opposition, the continuing absence of Grant Hanley and Jamal Lewis will be a worry for City’s Head Coach.

Hanley is likely to be rested for the squad’s trip to Germany, although Lewis should make an appearance there.

Hanley has been suffering from a muscle injury that has seen him have his own special fitness programme and unable to take part in full first team training yet.

Details of Daniel Farke’s comments from after the game can be found courtesy of the Pink ‘Un, here.

Ivo Pinto is suffering from a hamstring injury that looks like seeing him miss out on playing time during the German trip, along with Mario Vrancic too.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom with Norwich winning at Sincil Bank last night.

The Canaries fielded a strong looking first XI with Kenny McLean employed in central midfield alongside Mo Leitner. It was the Scot who opened the scoring just before the break with a sweet free kick over the wall that saw Lincoln keeper, Josh Vickers unable to do anything about it but stand and watch.

The second half saw nine changes and the first sightings of Jordan Rhodes and Ben Marshall as well as the first sighting for eighteen months of Louis Thompson, back from his devastating Achilles injury.

Rhodes was instrumental in both the second half goals, laying on assists for both and generally making his presence felt. He won headers, hustled and bustled and could’ve had a goal himself but for a block on a header.

The only blot on the copybook was when Sean Raggett sent a late 30 yard back pass into his own net, yes, 30 yards.

Other than that, this was a comfortable win and an encouraging night for all of a Canary persuasion. The sight of Louis Thompson back on the pitch in particular, was a cause for cheer and as Farke said earlier in the week, if he can continue his development then he’ll be like a new signing.
