Lambert Confirmed At Ipswich But He’s Taken A Norwich Coach With Him

|

Paul Lambert has been confirmed as the new Ipswich manager on a contract until 2021, the Tractor Boys have announced.

The former Norwich boss has also announced his backroom team and among them, he has taken the Canaries’ U23 Coach, Matt Gill.

Bit of a shock that.

Gill re-joined Norwich, his boyhood club in the summer of 2009 as one of Bryan Gunn’s summer signings. Lambert replaced Gunn just weeks into the 09/10 season starting after his Colchester United team had inflicted a 1-7 defeat on City at Carrow Road on the opening day.

He made just 10 appearances in League One before being moved on and then returning in 2014 as an academy coach.

Under Daniel Farke, Gill became the U23 coach and it seems that he will be a loss, having spoken to the media just two weeks ago alongside Academy Manager, Steve Weaver.

Good old Hucks!

Seriously, this is another reminder that there is no loyalty in football, even it seems, from a local born (Fakenham) lad.

I dare say that his new role at Ipswich as Lambert’s first team coach is a step up and I guess his relationship with Lambert was key to the appointment too.

David Wright (ex-Ipswich and Norwich) will move up from the U18s to take over the U23s for Monday’s PL2 match against Fulham with no permanent announcement yet made.
