Leeds United 2 Norwich City 1
Coca-Cola Football League One
Monday 19th October 2009

A last-minute howler from Fraser Forster allowed Jermain Beckford to steal all three points the last time the Canaries went to Elland Road.

Leeds took the lead arguably against the run of play when Bradley Johnson rose highest at the back post to head home Robert Snodgrass’ corner in the 15th-minute.

City were level seven minutes before half-time thanks to skipper and top scorer Grant Holt. Simon Lappin crossed well from the right hand side and Holt slid the ball well under United substitute keeper Casper Ankergren.

Both sides created decent chances in the second half but with the game looking set for a draw the unfortunate Forster scuffed a goal kick straight to Beckford, who made no mistake and sent the Whites top of the table.

After the game City boss Paul Lambert called the result ‘absolutely galling’, but the tables would be turned at Carrow Road later in the season thanks to Chris Martin’s own late, late winner.
