Lies, Damn Lies And Statistics – Norwich City 2017/18

|

Thank goodness that the season is over. It’s been nothing short of wretched for Norwich City fans but there are a few little bits of housekeeping to get out of the way before it’s all truly behind us.

Courtesy of EFL Stats on Twitter (@EFLStats) we have got a few Norwich statistics for you.

Most Goals: James Maddison – 14

Most Appearances: Angus Gunn – 46

Assists: James Maddison – 8

Shots On Target: Josh Murphy – 37

Most Passes: James Maddison – 2107

Most Interceptions: Grant Hanley – 58

Most Dribbles: James Maddison – 154

Most Clearances: Timm Klose – 240

Most Blocks: Timm Klose – 34

There are few surprises in terms of the players involved, although the last two concerning Timm Klose has reaffirmed for me the feeling I had that big Timm has had a decent season.

A chap that I follow on Twitter tweeted the other night that he thinks Klose isn’t good enough and has had a poor season. As I’ve often said before, football is all about opinions but I really have to disagree regarding Timm, because along with Grant Hanley he’s been pretty good, in my opinion anyway.

In terms of successful pass rates, Alex Tettey is the best placed Norwich player with an 89.2% rating. He’s actually third in the league with Tom Cairney the highest at 91.3%.

Another pointer at how good James Maddison is and how much of a threat he is perceived to be by the opposition is the stat for the most fouled player. Madders was fouled 147 times, the most of any player in the Championship this season. Joe Garner is in second place on that list, having been fouled ”only” 104 times. Maddison also tops the list for key passes with 126.

Right, you’ve had your fill of statistics. Let’s hope that this time next year we have a striker at the top of our scoring charts and not a midfielder – unless it’s James Maddison of course!
