After seeing Sunday evening’s match opponents switched from a Serie C side to a Serie D team at short notice, the club have now announced that Friday’s game against Serie B side, Livorno has been cancelled and will be replaced by an open training session.

There is an element of farce about all this and the lack of explanation in any detail is disappointing. I imagine that the club have been embarrassed by this and are just looking to sweep it under the carpet and get on with the tour.

Team bonding is all important on these trips but the idea is to face some different opposition as well. Other than a trip away, they could’ve played friendlies against Lowestoft and Cambridge for a lot less money and stayed in a travel lodge if they wanted team bonding.

We can only hope that Claude Makelele’s Bastia will actually turn up when they’re supposed to on Friday and give us a decent game.
