Looking Ahead To 5pm And A Few Clues To Pre-Season

|

The Canary Nation has now got one eye at 5 pm, each and every day of this summer’s transfer window.

The club have made a bit of a thing of announcing either new signings or contract extensions in the afternoons, just as many of us are finishing work for the day.

So much of a thing has this become that fans are now actively speculating what might happen on any given day at 5 pm on social media and the club’s media team are stoking that little fire, as you can see.

Yesterday’s big news at five was the announcement of a new contract for Super Tom Trybull.

Tom has signed on until 2022, with the option of a further year, which is all round great news.

He had to wait for his chance, having been injured in the early part of the season before then playing 17 games in a row from Birmingham at home in the second half of the season.

His individual performance against Leeds United at Elland Road was nothing short of sensational as he won tackle after tackle, often at pace and putting his body on the line to make sure he and Mario Vrancic won the midfield battle that day.

He missed the last two games of the season through injury but is back fit again and has started pre-season as normal.

In other news, the U23 squad that will visit Germany in pre-season has been announced and we can glean a bit from it.

Here is a full Under-23s travelling squad list:

Archie Mair (GK)
Billy Johnson (GK)
Rob Nizet
Jordan Thomas
Louis Lomas
Akin Famewo
Isak Thorvaldsson
Saul Milovanovic
Dan Adshead
Tom Scully
Alfie Payne
William Hondermarck
Gassan Ahadme
Miguel Mussel Quintais (trialist)
Shae Hutchinson
Aidan Fitzpatrick

You will notice that recent signings, Charlie Gilmour and Rocky Bushiri aren’t listed.

I’ve read that Gilmour might be heading to Holland on-loan but the really interesting one for me is young Rocky. With Christoph Zimmermann missing the whole of pre-season as he recovers from a knee operation, it certainly looks as though Rocky is going to be potentially joining in with the first team.

If that is the case, it is a huge opportunity for the Belgian U21 International to stake a claim for the Premier League squad.

So, have yourselves a great day and remember, 5 pm people, keep your eye on it!
