Norwich City’s eleventh hour signing of James Maddison could apparently earn the Sky Blues a fee of £9.5m when and if all the contract clauses are met.
The signing of the young midfielder came slightly out of left field late last night amid interest from Spurs and Liverpool, with the Reds being heavily linked. The fee was reported as being an initial £3m by The Daily Mail with other reports suggesting it was an initial £2m.
Obviously the word ‘initial’ is key here with a number of performance based clauses likely to be inserted in the deal to help sweeten the deal for Coventry if Maddison achieves his potential.
Steve Carpenter of The Coventry Observer has now tweeted a rather staggering figure of what he believes the deal to be worth in the best case for Coventry.
Carpenter tweeted this morning: ‘I understand that the intial fee for James Maddison is around £2.5m but that will rise up to £9.5m with all clauses.’
Blimey. It seems his potential is a lot bigger than I thought. Have we just bought the Midlands equivalent of Anthony Martial?!
