Ross McCormack has emerged overnight as the latest potential target for Norwich City as Alex Neil looks to add firepower to his squad.
McCormack holds the transfer fee record for a Championship player when he joined Fulham last summer from Leeds for a fee reported to be £11m – ironically, he was also linked with Norwich then.
McCormack scored 58 goals in 154 appearances for Leeds, figures that persuaded the Cottagers to dig deep for his signature. Since moving to Fulham he has made 43 appearances and scored 17 goals in a struggling side.
The Daily Mail are suggesting that the Scottish International is a target for Norwich but don’t actually have any detail to back that up. The only thing that they do have is the suggestion that Fulham are trying to get McCormack to sign a new long term contract. I have to say that is a little strange as he signed a four year contract when he joined Fulham, so he has three years left.
New contracts only tend to get offered in such circumstances when other clubs are circling, which seems likely but is one of them Norwich City?
Meanwhile, another reported target, Dwight Gayle is the subject of a £6m+ bid from Bristol City that according to various media outlets, including Sky Sports has been accepted by Crystal Palace.
Gayle has scored 12 goals in 48 appearances for Crystal Palace but it seems as though Palace don’t want to sell to a Premier League rival – no offence to Bristol City but seems like a backward step for the lad. Don’t get me wrong though, would be a great signing for the Bristol club, if they can get him.
Yesterday’s big news though was the report in Italian newspaper, Corriere dello Sport suggesting that Roma’s Mattia Destro is the subject of a bid from Norwich City.
Could just be another smoke screen but with Alex Neil suggesting that he hopes to have a new striker by this Saturday, speculation is reaching fever pitch.
