A bit of a disaster on the eve of the new Premier League season as it has been revealed that Youssouf Mulumbu has broken a metatarsal in his right foot after limping off against Brentford on Saturday – an injury that requires surgery.

Alex Neil confirmed the news after watching the Development side beat their Ipswich U21 counterparts 2-0 at Colney on Monday afternoon.

“Unfortunately Youssouf has a fractured metatarsal which requires immediate surgery,” Neil told canaries.co.uk. “We anticipate his recovery should take several weeks and this is something we will be able to assess further after the operation has taken place today.”

Mulumbu has been impressive throughout pre-season and looks likely to be a big player for Norwich this season.

Get well soon (and quickly) big man!
