Naismith Returns To Hearts

|

Steven Naismith will have a second spell on loan at Hearts, as the Scottish midfielder is set to be loaned to the SPL club for the 2018/19 season reports BBC Sport Scotland.

Naismith spent the second half of last season on loan at Tynecastle and he will become Craig Levein’s 11th(!) summer signing.

It just hasn’t worked out for Naismith at Norwich and this will be good news for most of the Canary Nation. I’m not privy to the details of the deal but you can bet your life that Hearts are only paying a fraction of the player’s wages while he’s on loan there. He’s the club’s highest paid player and is probably on £40-50k per week, I’d be surprised if Hearts could afford to pay  anymore than 20% of that.

I’m being optimistic there too.

Daniel Farke has never really given Naismith much of a chance but let’s be honest, the £8.5m signing from Everton has never really worked out or deserved another chance. His debut against Liverpool in that crazy 4-5 defeat to the Reds, saw him score and win a penalty. He looked like a real player that day but that was arguably as good as it got and for the life of me, I don’t know why.

He had always been a decent player at Everton and I was genuinely excited at the time by his signing. I guess it just goes to show that even if you buy a player that has been good elsewhere, there are no guarantees in football transfers.

With just a year left on his contract at Norwich, it seems that this will be the end of Steven Naismith, as far as the Canaries are concerned and that next summer he will be a free agent.

There is no confirmation from either Norwich or Hearts yet, so we’ll have to wait for that and perhaps a little more detail on the make up of the deal when the EDP’s Michael Bailey gets on the story.
