It is with a heavy heart that I find myself inclined to write this article.

As fans we’ve all fallen in love with Lord Nelson. His penchant for outrageously good goals has endeared him to the faithful and Farke’s insistence on starting Jerome had left the majority of us baffled.

But the clues were there.

The rumour is that Farke had sanctioned an £8m move to Reading. A bucket load of goals in preseason and a U-turn later and Oliviera is back on the pitch, scoring the equaliser against Fulham at Craven Cottage. The resulting celebration sent Twitter into Meltdown and Jake Humphries spouted an irony filled tweet with his suggestion that Oliviera should never play for NCFC again. A wonderful over-reaction to Nelson’s over-reaction.

A few days later and NO is conspicuous by his absence against Swindon. Was he just having his birthday off? Was it a really smart way to demonstrate a punishment while the player himself got to enjoy the night off?

Well, supposedly his agent was spotted in a hotel in Reading and the news on the twitter grapevine is that an improved bid has been tabled – somewhere in the region of £9.5m

My gut-feeling is that there is no smoke without fire. NO was incensed on Saturday. It would be on-par with Trump and kim Jong-un having a cheeky Nandos to imagine Farke and Oliviera making up.

Let’s hope all these rumours are just that – finding a striker who can bang in the goals at the same rate as Lord Nelson has done for NCFC will be bloody hard. Might find something in Germany!

What do you guys think?

OTBC!

  • I would be heartbroken to see him go , but if he does then the blame (IMO) will lie at the door of Farke who made the Alex Neilish decision to play the loser that is Jerome over his best striker . What an insult to Nelson to sit and watch the man whose very name is synominous with the last two seasons miserable and financially catastrophic seasons . Why this passionless Jerome keeps getting picked when his pathetic total of 3 Prem goals helped cost us our precious Prem place , his lowly finish of 7th in the Championship Top Scorers helped us to miss out on the play offs , and his grand total of zero outfield goals in pre season , is totally beyond me . The problem we have is not with Ollivera but with Jerome

  • I would have been more surprised if he had been in the squad. No manager would have had any other option. It was lucky that the game was not a league fixture.
As for transfers, I would hope a rival would not be seen as a suitable destination. Certainly get a replacement before any sale was made. Thus far at least, there have been no, “I want to move North,” “I’m a life long fan,”” procrastinations. Nor any public decention at all that I am aware of. Time will tell, but I hope its a sanction that’s been accepted, and the matter will soon be closed.

  • There are too few strikers on the squad for any to be sold at present. They need to buy before they sell.

  • We are not to know the private politics of Colney. That is the preserve of Farke, and probably a greater extent Webber. I see nothing to suggest that the former is not a highly knowledgeable a professional coach. In a game where loyalty now counts for nothing, Farke is charged with leading a group of mercenaries Good organisation and discipline are the only tools he has at his disposal. Remember Sanchez? He who vanquished us at will. He thought he was greater than the sum of the parts at Liverpool. He was wrong. As for blaming Jerome, don’t be so ridiculous. That both the Neil and the completely new regeme are not rushing to embrace Olivera, suggests there are clear issues to which we are not privy.

  • Completely confused if Farke had sanctioned an 8 million deal for Oli to leave and to a Rival? That is just strange. Also the fact that there were rumours (from a close friend and media) that Jerome was told he is free to go if a club met their value.

Also, why is Ffarke looking to sell? why doesn’t he want him? Is it to do with Farke wanting his own forward but needs the money? shouldn’t be especially after getting 12.5 million for Murphy.

The other thing is it sounds like Oli wants to stay, he even said that he is finally settled at a club. So maybe the celebration was more about saying to Farke ‘I want to stay here and stop trying to force me out’.

All very odd if all true

  • Since Webber has arrived there has been a lot of smoke screen and intrigue. Whilst the pantomime unfolds wheels are in motion elsewhere and from nowhere we have a new signing. Is this another of those situations?

  • Clywd … I do not blame Jerome for being picked , but I do blame him for his miserable failures . Have you forgotten his talentless contribution in the Prem league when our main striker failed us fans and our club ? Do you temember all his horrendous misses last season that helped condem us to another season in this League .Even the clueless Rab admitted after he was sacked realised his mistake in keeping faith in the likes of Jerome . It remains my passionate opinion that Jerome does not deserve to be playing for our club , let alone being picked above our best striker

  • Yellow Belly – It’s a shame your opinion is so far gone from reality. If you actually looked at the stats you would see that Jerome was our highest scorer last season. On top of that, you would also find out that he had one of the highest conversion rates in the Championship. This has been documented by Sky Sports. Fans tend to remember his glaring misses but you forget all the other goals he’s contributed and the assists. It’s well known that Jerome is not Premier League level, but he’s very good in the Championship. The club is more than one player. Oliveira has ben reminded of that. As for LeeBoz’s sources, the Reading chap spreading those rumours said Oliveira was imminent a month ago. Oliveira has been suspended until Thursday for obvious reasons. Can’t believe some of you are questioning Farke after two games. Pathetic.

  • It’s just a case of wait and see now isn’t it? At least in Jerome we have someone who will run his heart out for the cause. And in the current climate that’s an asset regardless of his short comings.

  • Daniel , I respect what you have to say .It is a great pity that you label what I have to say as pathetic

  • Yellow belly – I’m also with you. An exceptionally well paid, thoroughly professional donkey.

  • The manager has handled the situation extremely well for the benefit of the playing group and the club. As DF said…it is about the group and whats on the front of the shirt…not the player and whats on his back.

The major issue here is the media will NOT let it drop despite repeated requests so who could blame clubs sniffing for a good player?

IMHO Oliveira will start on Sunday and had better put one in the net or make sure humble pie is available for an after match snack.

I stated after the game that I thought the reason he scored was BECAUSE he was held on the bench and came on with a point to prove. WELL DONE DF!

    Let the manager manage!

  • Whatever may be said about Jerome- personally I think he contributes a lot at this level but he’s not premier league standard- we are desperately sort of strikers. Nelson is the best, Jerome second. I don’t think of Naismith or Watkins as an attacker. So I think we need at least one more, two if NO goes

  • Naismith comments were reassuring. As were Farkes later in the day. Sunderland may not be as happy as we are about the announcements!!!

  • Running your heart out was not apparent on Sunday when Jermiss0me did not even get into
a decent position to achieve his customary misses.
