New Contract Talks, An Agreement In Place And An Ex-Canary Looks Set To Reject Ipswich

|

We’ve got a few bits of news for you today in what’s best described as “a round-up” of all things Norwich City.

The first is that the club are actively in talks with the agent of Todd Cantwell over a new deal. That news comes from Michael Bailey at the EDP.

However, it doesn’t seem as straight forward as previous deals for other young players in recent times, like Ben Godfrey, Jamal Lewis, Louis Thompson and Max Aarons. Those deals were done pretty quickly and I think I’m right in saying that Aarons signed a new deal and then an improved one just four months later, after a stellar start to life in the first team.

Todd is one of our own and much is made of him being born in Dereham. He’s supported the club all his life and been with the Academy since he was nine years old. Surely a solution will be found.

Moving on to a story that first surfaced on Monday, which you can read here, there is a little more meat on the bones regarding Bolton’s unpaid six-figure salary bill that they owe to Norwich for the loans of Remi Matthews and Yanic Wildschut.

The Bolton News are reporting that Wanderers owe City £195,000 in unpaid wages for the pair but that the club are insisting that there is “an agreement in place” to make good on that.

Bolton also have an issue with Forest Green Rovers and their striker, Christian Doidge, who was supposed to be signing in January for £250k and has been on loan with the Trotters, just like the deal with Norwich for Remi Matthews.

Forest Green Rovers Chairman, Dale Vince says he will sue Bolton for that £250k. Sounds like a very nasty business.

Finally, you may have sat up and taken notice last week when we reported that former Canary, Anthony Pilkington was a target for Paul Lambert at Ipswich.

Not content with the heresy of joining our old mates down the A140, Lambert is now trying to recruit ex-Canaries, he did something similar at Blackburn when he signed Elliot Ward and Elliot Bennett.

Huddersfield striker, Colin Quaner was loaned to Ipswich yesterday meaning the number of loanees at Portman Road is now five, which is the maximum in a match-day squad allowed under EFL rules.

It seems the plan was to take on the remainder of Pilkington’s Cardiff contract, which runs out in the summer, effectively signing him permanently.

However, according to Andy Warren of the EADT, Pilkington’s head has been turned by a counter offer from Wigan Athletic and a need to be closer to his family home in Blackburn.

Is anyone keen on seeing ex-City players pull on a blue shirt with a pony on the badge? No, I don’t think they are.

Thats the word on the Canary street at the moment. This is the Vital Norwich Newsroom and you’re up to date.
