New Norwich Signing In Contention To Face Middlesbrough

|

New Norwich City signing, Dimitris Giannoulis is in contention to face Middlesbrough at the weekend after securing a work permit, the club have announced.

Having been announced last week and having had to complete COVID-19 quarantine rules, City’s new left-back has finally been able to train with his new teammates on Tuesday for the first time.

A club statement reads:

Norwich City can confirm that the application for Dimitris Giannoulis’ work permit has been successful.

“It was announced last week that Greek international Giannoulis had joined City on an initial loan deal from PAOK for the remainder of the 2020-21 season. The deal will be made permanent should City gain promotion to the Premier League.

“The Greek left-back is now officially eligible to train with his new team-mates and feature for City in competitive match action, starting with the weekend’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Middlesbrough at Carrow Road.”

With Xavi Quintilla having only just completed his own isolation after testing COVID positive and with Jacob Sorensen having played very well as a stand-in left-back, it remains to be seen if the new boy will be thrown straight into action against Neil Warnock’s ‘Boro. It isn’t usually the Farke way to do such a thing, so I would think he is unlikely to start the game if past decisions are anything to go by. We don’t know if Xavi has fully recovered from COVID though, so that could also affect what happens on Saturday.

Having said that, you can never tell and in the coming weeks it seems certain that Xavi and Dimitris will battle it out for the important role on the left of the City defence.

Well said, Dimitris, I love that!
