Nine Academy Players To Leave Norwich This Summer

|

With June just around the corner, it is always an anxious time for young players whose contracts are running out in the summer. In the current climate, there is even more reason for players to be concerned and with lower league clubs likely to be struggling for cash, the options for players released by Premier League clubs looks likely to be much more limited than normal.

Norwich City have announced that nine Academy players will be released this summer.

Tom Scully, Alfie Payne, Billy Johnson, Savvas Mourgos, Mason Bloomfield, Diallang Jaiyesimi and Timi Odusina, who have all played for the U23s recently and U18s Anthonius Berkeley and Arash Ahmadi, will also officially leave the club on June 30.

Steve Weaver, Academy Manager, told canaries.co.uk. “We always make sure that we begin this process at the earliest opportunity and that was no different this season.

“All of the lads have been aware of the situation for some time, some even prior to the January transfer window. We want to allow the players who know they are leaving the club as much time to plan and prepare for whatever awaits them after Norwich City.

“It’s of course a tough and challenging process for all involved, but we wish all of those players leaving us the very best.”

FC Bears from the Vital Norwich Forum gave this assessment:

Mourgos – Talented but two massive injuries have done for him.

Odusina – Cant’ see him pushing into the current defence so understandable.

Jaiyesimi – I am surprised as he was getting good reviews from his current loan and looked a good player.

Bloomfield – Unfortunately he signed for us when his stock was high and it just hasn’t happened for him – I think he has an injury and loans didn’t work out.

Johnson – I don’t know too much but a decent GK but then you look at the amount of GKs we have and you can see why he has been released.

I had already mentioned Payne and Scully both decent players.

I wonder if we will see a few new U23 signings happen or U18 player promoted (is that the right term when going from U18 to U23)?

Raggett will probably have his contract extension and then the club will look to sell in summer.

Good luck, lads.
