Norwich And Sheffield United Both Want Midfielder

|

Norwich City are in a tug of war with Sheffield United for Chelsea midfielder Kasey Palmer according to the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old is well known to Stuart Webber, who signed him for Huddersfield on a season-long loan back in the summer of 2016.

He made 24 appearances, scoring 4 goals before an extended period of injury cut his season short, although he did return in time for the play-off final in May 2017.

Huddersfield were still keen and signed another loan agreement with Chelsea at the start of last season but this one wasn’t as successful as the first. Kasey made just five appearances, without scoring and the loan was terminated in January.

Derby County immediately stepped in and got him on loan until the end of the season. He managed 6 appearances and scored 1 goal.

As is the Chelsea way, the lad is on a long contract and he signed an extension keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2021 just last summer.

This is seemingly just their youth policy though. They like to keep young players on their books and get them out on loan. Only a very few hit the heights, I’m struggling to think of any really, although Ruben Loftus-Cheek had a great season at Crystal Palace last season and he’s in the England squad as a result.

Whether Chelsea are prepared to give him a go next season though, is another matter.

The idea of keeping them on a long contract means you can charge a hefty fee for them if anyone is interested. Patrick Bamford for £6m to ‘Boro, anyone?

Anyway, back to Palmer. He is a proven Championship operator and he will know Stuart Webber, that could help City’s Sporting Director steal a march on those pesky Blades.
