Norwich City Announce Squad Numbers And New Captain

|

If you’ve been waiting before taking the plunge and picking a name and number for your new Canaries shirt, you need wait no longer.

Norwich City have announced their squad numbers for the 2018/19 season and they’ve also announced that Grant Hanley will be the new Captain.

Last season, Russell Martin started the season as Captain but that quickly went south after the 4-0 drubbing at Millwall and the first international break.

Ivo Pinto became the replacement skipper but was replaced by Alex Tettey on occasions through either injury to Ivo or simply, at the season’s end that Harrison Reed was a better option at right back.

Realistically, Hanley is the obvious, standout candidate for the role of skipper and I’m pleased he’s been given the armband.

Anyway, here are the numbers:

The new squad number announcement is always a nice moment for me, I have no real idea why but I just enjoy looking through them and trying to work out what they mean – usually not a lot.

Ben Godfrey is number 4, which could be either a midfield or defender’s number, so no surprises there.

Of our new signings, Mo Leitner is number 10, Kenny McLean will be number 23, Emiliano Buendia will wear 17, Ben Marshall has 7, Jordan Rhodes will be number 11, Teemu Pukki will be 22 and Felix Passlack will wear number 24.

Interestingly, Nelson Oliveira still has the number 9 shirt and Russell Martin keeps his usual number 5. Whether they will be around after August 31st to wear them is another matter altogether.

My lad tells me that he wants a new home shirt with Leitner’s name on the back. That’s not a bad shout, I reckon.
