Norwich City Links To French Defender Continue

|

Norwich City continue to be linked with 27-year-old French Defender, William Remy after the story first emerged over the weekend courtesy of the investigative skills of Twitter’s one-stop shop for City news, Cory@iwritethings23. You can read that story here.

On Sunday, another snippet emerged, again sourced by Cory from Polish UEFA.com reporter, Piotr Kozminski.

Here’s a translation for those of you not fluent in Polish:

“William Remy in Norwich? I tried to check and something happens, however, the information provided by France Football is real, which is not surprising. “At the moment, we assess the chances of transfer at 50%” – I heard a moment ago from a person who is very close to this matter.”

So, there’s a little more flesh on the bones, suggesting that City are definitely trying to add to their backline in this transfer window.

L’Equipe reported back in the summer of 2017 that Remy was a target for Leeds, while still a Montpellier player, but that advances from the current Championship leaders were dismissed.

Remy is 6’ tall, fairly quick and strong. It seems he is a physical presence who is good in the air and can also play as a defensive midfielder. He has made six appearances for Legia Warsaw this season and scored 2 goals, his most recent game (and goal) came on 20th December in a 3-2 win over Zaglebie Sos.

As previously reported, he only joined Legia Warsaw this time last year and has two and a half years left on that deal but from what I can make out, he may have struggled to settle in Warsaw. I dare say the Canaries’ current league position is something that he and his agent might find attractive.

The picture in the title shows Remy battling with Lucas Moura (now at Spurs) in a Ligue 1 match between Paris St Germain and Montpellier at the Parc des Princes in 2016.

Would be nice if they could renew their acquaintance with Remy in Canary yellow next season, eh?!

UPDATE:

The EDP are now reporting that Remy will not be joining Norwich this January. The report was very explicit about that but there’s been so much speculation that it would seem that something has occurred, even if it’s just initial contact.

Players are often targeted by clubs months or years in adavance and perhaps he’s been looked at as a potential replacement for Timm Klose if he leaves and/or we do/don’t win promotion.

Remember the name.
