Norwich City – Links To Wingers And One Canary Who Is Attracting Premier League Attention

|

After the impressive impact against Bournemouth of Norwich City’s first winter transfer signing, Ondrej Duda on Saturday, the Sunday papers had a few more transfer rumours regarding the Canaries.

Rayo Vallecano winger, Adrian Embarba has reportedly caught the eye of City’s recruitment team after an impressive season so far in the Spanish second tier.

According to Spanish daily and media outlet, Murdo Deportivo Norwich are “leading interest” from the Premier League for the 27-year-old who has 7 goals and 10 assists in 2019/20.

That sort of form has attracted the likes of Real Betis and Espanyol in Spain as well as West Ham. He’s got 18 months left on his contract but is highly rated and could be valued as highly as €9m, which makes me think that he’s currently out of our reach.

The Canaries really could do with another out and out wide player to offer competition and something different to Onel Hernandez. Lukas Rupp, signed permanently from Hoffenheim last week, can play wide right or at right full-back if needed, as well as being a more regular option in the centre of midfield. Could he be a utility player to save the need to spend anymore cash?

Another winger that City have been linked with is German international, Amin Younes who is currently at Napoli.

According to Italian football site, Arena Napoli and reported here by the Pink ‘Un  the Canaries are keen on a loan move for the 26-year-old but the mention of a 2.5m euro loan fee seems to be a bone of contention at the moment.

Younes has five caps for Germany and was at Borussia Monchegladbach earlier in his career with new City signing, Lukas Rupp. He then spent three years at Ajax and played against Manchester United in the Europa League Final in 2017, before moving to Napoli.

He now seems to be out of favour with the Serie A giants though, having made just seven appearances this season. There do seem to be a few links to wingers in this transfer window, so it seems likely that this is a position that the Canaries are looking to strengthen.

In terms of players who could be leaving the Canaries, Jamal Lewis was mentioned by The Sunday Mirror as being a possible target for Crystal Palace.

Lewis has lost his place to Sam Byram in recent weeks and with the loan move back to Germany of Philip Heise, City now only have one specialist left back, despite the right-footed Byram making a good fist of the job currently.

Last week, Norwich were linked with Villarreal left-back, Xavi Quintilla so it does seem that that could be an area that we are looking to strengthen as conventional wisdom suggests that you need two players for each position.

Lewis has perhaps been unlucky to lose his place in the side but he was struggling, in my view, to get forwards and take people on. Against Manchester United at Carrow Road last autumn, he looked like he had completely lost his confidence when up against Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who seemed to beat him every time they came into direct contact.

The rest will hopefully re-focus Jamal, who is, of course, a hugely talented and promising left-back who is already the first choice there for Northern Ireland.

One thing for sure is that if Palace do want Jamal then they will have to pay big money to get him.
