Norwich City are close to completing the signing of Rochdale midfielder, Daniel Adshead, according to Football Insider for a six-figure fee.
The report comes from football journalist, Pete O’Rourke who is always particularly active in the transfer windows when it comes to the rumour mill.
He kind of has a hit and miss reputation, I’d say, having tweeted last night that Lee Bowyer was out of a job at Charlton, only for a new deal to be announced by the Addicks this morning!
Anyway, Pete is saying that City have agreed to a £300k fee with Rochdale for Adshead, who is 17 and turns 18 in September.
He’s kind of a big deal, in the way that young players often seem to be, and Football Insider reckons that he has attracted the interest of several big Premier League clubs in the recent past, most notably the two Manchester clubs, as well as Liverpool and Tottenham.
Adshead is an England U18 International (3 caps) and is very highly regarded.
Presumably, he would be one for the U23 squad initially but the way his career is progressing, he could well be in or around the first team squad fairly soon.
If correct, his signing would be another in the vein of several similar signings in the last two seasons with one eye on progression to the first team and beyond.
