Norwich Defender Forced To Withdraw From International Duty Due To Injury

It goes from bad to worse for Norwich City as Jamal Lewis has been forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier due to a knee injury.

The 21-year-old left back suffered the problem during Saturday’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, a game that he was a doubt for in any case with elbow ligament damage.

Northern Ireland are set to face the Netherlands in a European Championships qualifier and then play a friendly against the Czech Republic in the next two weeks. Instead though, Lewis will remain in Norfolk to be assessed by the club’s medical team.

There’s no word on just how serious this issue is and whether or not he will be fit to face Bournemouth in City’s next match, at the Vitality Stadium in two weeks’ time.

Jamal joins an extensive injury list that is now beginning to seriously hamper the Canaries’ ability to remain competitive in the Premier League, as Daniel Farke explained after the Villa game.

Fingers crossed that this is only a minor issue and that Jamal, along with one or two others can return to full fitness in the next couple of weeks.
