Norwich Defender Set For Rotherham Loan

|

Norwich central defender, Sean Raggett is set for a season-long loan move to Rotherham, HITC Sport understands.

This has been speculated locally for some time, with Rotherham’s manager and Norwich son, Paul Warne being a confirmed admirer of the 25-year-old former Lincoln defender.

City signed Raggett last summer for a reported £300k and then loaned him back to Lincoln for the first half of last season. He came back to Norwich in January but never really got a chance with Zimmermann, Hanley and Klose ahead of him in the pecking order.

I suspect that Daniel Farke took a good long look at him in that period and he has had chances early on in pre-season too, notably in the 2-1 win over Kings Lynn when Warne watched him play for an hour.

He then scored a 30-yard own goal against Lincoln, in the final minute of that friendly and was an unused sub in the last two games of the German tour.

Raggett is under contract until 2020 with a one year option but it looks as though Farke has seen enough to decide that Raggett isn’t ready yet for the City first team. A year in the Championship will give everyone plenty of time to assess his ability at this level and with Timm Klose out of contract next summer, there could be an opportunity to replace Klose then, if big Timm can’t be persuaded to sign a new contract.

HITC Sport are a reliable source, so I expect this to happen and if Nick says it’s happening, then it’s gospel.
