Norwich Defenders In Demand (Surprisingly)

Norwich City’s full-backs, Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis are in demand according to reports in the Sunday transfer gossip columns.

Aarons is being linked with a £20m move to Wolves according to the Sunday Mirror, while Lewis is being linked to Stoke City by the Belfast Telegraph – both reports are discussed in detail by the EDP.

The prospect of a move to Wolves would, on the face of it, seem a good one for Aarons, although he seems unlikely to displace Matt Doherty as the first choice right sided wing-back but he has age on his side and is still far from the finished article. The price quoted seems reasonable enough in a season that has seen both Aarons and Lewis struggle at times in the top flight.

The link to Lewis seems slightly out of left-field with it seemingly being because Stoke are managed by Lewis’ former international manager with Northern Ireland, Michael O’Neil.

I’m sure that O’Neil would love to sign Jamal but a move away from Norwich who will surely be one of the promotion favourites to a club like Stoke, who are only just safe from relegation with a game left, seems a backward move to me. Plus, I’d be surprised if Stoke would be willing to pay a similar fee as that quoted for Aarons in the Championship, for a left-back.

There is cover for both players in the form of Sam Byram and Sam McCallum, should transfers be sanctioned although surely, you can forget the Stoke link.
