Norwich Interest In Championship Midfielder?

|

Norwich City are keen on signing Rotherham United midfielder, Will Vaulks in January reports the Daily Mail.

Vaulks has been a regular fixture in the Millers’ first team since signing from Falkirk in 2016, making 115 appearances and scoring 13 goals along the way. Four of those goals have come this season.

He has eighteen months left on his current deal and the Daily Mail reckon that he’s valued at £1.5m by the Millers.

The big questions for me are “do we need him?” and “will we strengthen in January?”

Stuart Webber has been fairly vocal in recent weeks about not doing any business in January unless our hand is forced by a silly money offer for a player. Other than that, it seems that the only business will be letting players leave that either need game time, like Matt Jarvis, Ben Marshall or Carlton Morris or, moving Nelson Oliveira on.

However, I seem to remember Mr Webber saying something very similar at this time last year and then we ended up bringing in Moritz Leitner, Dennis Srbeny and Onel Hernandez.

So, I’m inclined to take these latest comments with a pinch of salt. That brings me back to my first question of “do we need him?”

With Kenny McLean about to return to the first team squad, hoping to challenge for the match day squad, I’m not so sure.

He’s highly rated by the Millers and £1.5m is not a huge price tag. There is also a suggestion from this report that Stoke and Derby are also both interested but McLean is also a goal scoring midfielder. We’ll see.
