Norwich Lose Another Coach But Sign Key Player Until 2023

|

Norwich City have announced that First Team coach, Christian Fluthmann has returned to Germany and joined Eintracht Braunsweig.

Fluthmann joined Norwich eighteen months ago as part of Daniel Farke’s backroom staff but has returned to Germany for personal reasons. You may remember the name of his new club because it’s where we signed Onel Hernandez from, although they are now in the third division of the German football pyramid.

The Canaries recently announced that another German,  Christopher John had joined the coaching staff with a particular role in video analysis, which is something that had been part of Fluthmann’s responsibilities.

It had been assumed that John’s arrival would be to replace Matt Gill who left for Ipswich but these things are rarely knee-jerk reactions and it seems that he was Fluthmann’s replacement, rather than Gill’s.

In other news coming out of the Canary camp today, Grant Hanley has signed a new contract that will keep him at Carrow Road until 2023.

Describing the news as making him feel “Over the moon,” this is excellent for the club and the Canary nation. Despite having missed the last 13 games due to injury, the City Captain has done more than enough to suggest that he will be a big part of the squad going forward in his previous 40 games, during which he scored 2 goals.

Now back in full training out with the squad in Tampa Bay, Hanley should be ready to return after the international break although the partnership of Timm Klose and Christoph Zimmermann has been key to City’s climb up the table.

Hanley, at 26 years old is at an excellent age to be signing a four and a half year contract. I’m kind of surprised that he’s still only 26. He seems to have been around for ages, I remember him scoring for Blackburn in a 1-0 win over Man United in the Premier League.

Good news.
