Norwich Make Midfielder Offer With Less Reliable Report Suggesting The Deal Is Done

|

Norwich City are continuing to be heavily linked with Sevilla’s 26-year-old defensive midfielder, Ibrahim Amadou according to reports in Spain via Estadio Deportivo.

This further report now explains in a bit more detail how Sevilla are willing to off-load the French midfielder, who can also play as a centre-back, but that they have been waiting all summer for someone to offer them the 10 million euros that they wanted for him.

That sort of offer hasn’t materialised but he has attracted some interest from France, as well as, it seems, Norwich City.

With no permanent offers incoming and the transfer deadline drawing near (5pm on Thursday) Estadio Deportivo understand that negotiations are at an advanced stage between Sevilla and the Canaries and that City have offered to pay all of the player’s wages for the duration of a season-long-loan, reported as 3 million euros plus a loan fee.

It is also understood that there is talk of an option to buy Amadou being inserted, should all parties agree, next summer.

I’m not sure how reliable Acura Sports are but they seem to think the deal has been completed. I mention it because it’s out there in the Twittersphere, not as a given.

Amadou is currently kicking his heels back in Spain having not been included on Sevilla’s pre-season trip to Germany, along with Roque Mesa, Guilherme Arana and centre-back Joris Gnagnon, another player that Norwich are being linked with, in a similar vein, albeit not so strongly as the talk about Amadou.

All these players are surplus to requirements with new Sevilla Head Coach, Julen Lopetegui having decided early in the summer that he wanted them gone.

Despite having made 32 appearances for Sevilla in the 2018/19 season, Lopetegui has made up his mind about Amadou, with the Sevilla boss having only been appointed in June 2019. It is something of a surprise that a player who cost a reported £12.96m just a year ago is being discarded so quickly but hey, that’s football for you.

In the picture I’ve used for the header, you can see Amadou casually dealing with the world’s best player, Lionel Messi, or he might just be fouling him, it’s difficult to tell.

Norwich do need a new defensive midfielder though with Tom Trybull being the only specialist player in that position currently available. Alex Tettey is injured and has played no part in pre-season and he is also in the last year of his contract and well over 30.

This certainly sounds as though it may have some legs.
