Statistics website WhoScored.com applied individual player ratings after each game in the Premier League this season, and Norwich find themselves, not surprisingly unrepresented in the statistical eleven based on those ratings.
There are a couple of names that feature in their stats based starting XI that make perfect sense given the seasons those individuals have had, but there are some picks that might make fans raise an eyebrow or two – potentially those watching them week in and week out, but definitely for opposition fans.
Prime examples being no Jamie Vardy from Leicester, or Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.
What you would think would be two players guaranteed to take the striking spots given the assumptions you would make on their ‘match ratings’ find themselves replaced by two attacking midfielders.
Heurelho Gomes (Watford) 7.2
Cedric Soares (Southampton) 7.3
Virgil van Dijk (Southampton) 7.6
Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City) 7.5
Cristian Fuchs (Leicester) 7.4
Riyad Mahrez (Leicester) 7.8
Moussa Dembele (Tottenham) 7.7
N`Golo Kante (Leicester) 7.6
Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) 7.7
Dimitri Payet (West Ham) 7.7
Mesut Ozil (Arsenal) 7.7
Others would say no Sergio Aguero or Kevin de Bruyne from Manchester City.
And that’s probably just the beginning of the questions as I would guess most fans would think their side has a player or two they think would be in contention with those ratings.
So where did the Norwich players come in this stats based league table?
The top three for Norwich were:
Robbie Brady 7.22
Timm Klose 7.21
Dieumerci Mbokani 6.80
No surprises there, I’d say.
