Norwich City have reportedly rejected a seven figure offer from Bristol City for Marley Watkins, according to The Pink ‘Un

Watkins was a target for the Robins last summer and left Barnsley on a free transfer, choosing Norwich over several other suitors, but he`s failed to deliver the goods so far.

The Pink ‘Un say that an offer in excess of £1m was rejected by the Canaries earlier in the month, for the 27 year old who has made 21 appearances but scored just one Carabao Cup goal since making the move to Norfolk.

We haven`t seen a lot of him lately, with Daniel Farke intimating that his attitude hadn`t been all it could be in training. The message being that if you don`t put the effort in, then you don`t make the match day squad and that`s fair enough.

If City have turned down a bid of this size for him, it suggests that Farke and Stuart Webber feel there is a player inside there, somewhere. Certainly his performances for former club, Barnsley last season showed he can be a decent Championship operator.

Whether Bristol City will try again before the transfer window closes, remains to be seen.

  • The following point on the PinkUn article might explain why we’ve rejected it:

“given EFL rules require each matchday squad of 18 to include seven homegrown players ? effectively with three years registered at an English or Welsh club before they reach 21.”
