Norwich Set To Sign Villarreal Defender

|

Norwich City are set to sign Villarreal left back, Xavi Quintilla according to reports in Spain and reported here by the EDP.

The reports in Spain come from Barcelona based paper “Sport” and they say that the 23-year-old Spanish U19 international will join the Canaries initially on a loan with that loan becoming permanent if promotion is attained at the end of the coming season.

Quintilla is a player that has been linked with Norwich for a while and a name I instantly recognised, having written about a link to him in the last winter transfer window. He is a product of Barcelona’s world famous La Masia academy, which also produced the likes of Andreas Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Victor Valdes, Carles Puyol and of course, the world’s greatest ever player (in my opinion), Lionel Messi – to name but a few. He was also part of the Barca youth team that won the UEFA Youth League in 2014.

Quintilla didn’t make the breakthrough into the Barca first team though and joined Villareal’s B Team from Barca B in 2017 before making his senior debut in 2018. He has made 29 appearances with 19 of those coming last season but according to the report he is seen as surplus to requirements by the Villarreal (and former Arsenal) boss, Unai Emery.

This lad has represented Spain at every youth level up to U19s and he has Europa League experience with his last appearance for Villarreal coming against Real Madrid.

He has a decent CV and would surely be an asset, although does this mean that Jamal Lewis is still a wanted man?
