Norwich Sign Moritz Leitner

|

Norwich City have announced the signing of Moritz Leitner from Augsburg.

The talented midfielder has signed a four year deal for the usual undisclosed fee with all the details from the club being on the club’s official website.

The 25 year old former Borussia Dortmund and Lazio midfielder is a real ball player and a signing that I have been keeping my fingers crossed that City could pull off, ever since the season finished.

In the week before the final game of the season, I was invited onto the Pink ‘Un show by Michael Bailey. After the show, we chatted and we spoke about Mo Leitner.

I told Michael that I would love us to sign him and he told me that he understood that the club were very keen to get him back and that they felt the deal was realistic. Ever since, I’ve been keeping everything crossed.

Mo likes his Instagram posts and throughout the summer has shown pictures and videos of him on his account, @moleitner5, generally keeping fit and doing his summer workouts while often wearing his Norwich away shirt.

He seems to have made a connection with the place and clearly he gets on well with Daniel Farke and the rest of the German contingent at NR1. I for one, am chuffed to bits that we’ve managed to sign him permanently.

Where he will play isn’t 100% clear yet because although he often played alongside Alex Tettey, in a deep lying midfield role after the injury to Tom Trybull, he can also play as a number 10. He was sometimes played there when he was used by Dortmund but understandably, with James Maddison at the club last season, it wasn’t really a vacant position at Norwich.

He did actually play there against Sheffield Wednesday, after James Maddison went off injured and got the assist for the Canaries’ only goal of that shocking game.

With Emi Buendia and Kenny McLean joining already, the signing of Mo Leitner is another one to get excited about. Maybe this summer isn’t going to be all doom and gloom after all 🙂

Welcome aboard, Mo.
