Norwich Sign Young Midfielder

|

Norwich City have signed midfielder Saul Milovanovic after his release from Huddersfield.

The 17-year-old has been on trial with the Norwich Academy for the last three weeks and played three times for the U18s as well as appearing in the U23s games against Wolves and Aston Villa.

He joins fellow former Huddersfield academy defender, Jordan Thomas in joining the Canaries and it seems that he is another player known well to the Academy manager, Steve Weaver who joined Stuart Webber in making the move from Huddersfield to Carrow Road.

The lad has signed a deal with Norwich until 2020 and will initially link up with the development squad as another youngster with potential that Weaver hopes to turn into a star.

Jamal Lewis’ promotion to the first team under Daniel Farke this season has shown youngsters thinking about joining the club that there is a definite possibility of first team football if you put in the effort required.

Milovanovic was initially at Liverpool but signed for Huddersfield under Weaver and with the Terriers closing their academy, there have been a few decent youngsters looking for homes that are already known to the Academy boss.

The future for Norwich City under Stuart Webber’s watch will see the club invest heavily in youth development, which the recent raising of £5m via the”Canary Bond” goes a long way towards.

The plan will be to pick up youngsters like Milovanovic and Thomas and try to turn them into stars that can help the first team, before most likely being sold on to help the club keep ticking over. It’s a model that served Southampton very well for a number of years, as the Saints academy produced Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and of course, Harrison Reed. I could keep adding names to that list as well.

The future is in youth football rather than throwing money at the problem, something that has seen the club get its fingers burnt in recent years.
