Norwich Striker Close To Carrow Road Exit

|

Nelson Oliveira is being heavily linked with a move away from Norfolk to AEK Athens by Greek media outlet SDNA.

The 27-year-old City striker has been effectively ostracised from the Canaries’ first team for the whole of last season, having only had a watching brief as the club went on a Championship title winning run.

In spite of what seems to be a breakdown in the relationship between the player and Head Coach, Daniel Farke, Sporting Director, Stuart Webber was quick to praise Nelson’s attitude last season when he only made the odd appearance for the U23s in the first half of the season.

Oliveira then joined Reading in January 2019 and this was a reasonably successful loan, albeit one that was marred by a hamstring injury and a horrible stamp on his face by Tyrone Mings of Aston Villa.

The link to AEK Athens first surfaced a few weeks ago, with this report suggesting that the player and his agent are pleased with a salary offer of over one million euros per annum and a response from the player is expected in the next few hours.

It never quite worked out for Oliveira, despite a great first season at Carrow Road in which he scored 15 goals in another injury marred period.

His first season under Farke in 2017/18 only saw him bag only 7 goals as well as starting a ridiculous shoot on sight, no matter what the distance, policy along with an opening day display of petulance when he scored a late equaliser against Fulham on the opening day.
