Norwich v Wigan – Rate The Players

|

The late 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic was not exactly the most entertaining game of football I have ever watched.

Norwich played better in all three of their previous league wins but there were still things to admire in what the players were doing. The biggest problem was the referee, Gavin Ward.

Mr Ward put in the worst refereeing performance of the season so far, in terms of games at Carrow Road, and seemed blind to various pushes, trips, flailing arms and a stone wall penalty in the first half that he just waved away. He did even things up a bit in the second half as he eventually started booking Wigan players for persistent fouling throughout the game.

Having waved away that first half “challenge” on Teemu Pukki, there was always the chance that he might give the next big shout if it came and that’s exactly what he did, thankfully.

Wigan failed to register a single shot on target all afternoon, while Norwich managed four. Two of those came from the excellent Marco Stiepermann who for me, was the man of the match. The sponsors’ award was given to Teemu Pukki but it was Marco who would’ve been my choice.

He was physical when he needed to be and displayed some nice touches and passing when he needed to as well. He is, in my opinion, a major reason as to why things are currently gelling as well as they are.

Anyway, those are my thoughts, let’s hear yours. Rate the players by lighting up the stars.
